National Trust for Historic Preservation -- Helping Johnny Walk to School
The National Trust for Historic Preservation in conjunction with the Jesse Ball du Pont Fund and the US Environmental Protection Agency will be awarding grants to organizations to develop state-level policy recommendations and offer an education program to help citizens and officials in their state make informed siting choices on school facilities. The Helping Johnny Walk to School program is designed to help localities site their schools in a way that not only achieves their educational objectives but also anchors the local neighborhood, supports better public health, creates a cleaner environment, spurs economic development and offers additional amenities to the community.
Five grants of up to $6,000 will be made to 501 (c)3 organizations who demonstrate the need for improved school siting policies at the state level, previous experience with school siting policies and practices, the ability to work collaboratively with allied organizations within the state on this issue, and the willingness to work as a mentor to other states in the future.
Deadline: July 14, 2008
Please Note: The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools (CHHCS) does not administer this funding opportunity.
