John S. and James L. Knight Foundation -- News Challenge Grants
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s News Challenge Grants provide funding for neighborhood-focused projects that develop services and programs for the local community, and distribute or disseminate the programs, or information about the programs, through the use of media.
Five million dollars in total funding is available for 2009. Eligible applicants must: (1) Use or create digital, open-source technology, (2) Serve the public interest, and (3) benefit one or more specific geographic communities.
Deadline: November 1, 2008
