Free Preventive Services Under Health Care Reform

The Obama Administration announced the list of free preventive health services, including prevention services to children, under the new health care reform law. For those on new health plans that begin on or after September 23, 2010, preventive services with strong scientific evidence of health benefits will be offered without a copayment, coinsurance or deductible when delivered by a network provider. The list of covered benefits, released on July 14, 2010 includes prevention services for children as recommended under the Bright Futures guidelines. These Services include well baby/child visits, vision and hearing screenings, childhood immunizations, and weight management counseling. Other services include obesity screening, blood pressure, cancer screenings, immunizations, and tobacco cessation services
