New resource

The National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN), which includes data from 2005-2006, was recently released by the for Child & Adolescent Health.  This resource includes a tool to generate survey responses about demographics, indicators and outcomes related to children with special needs, as well as to compare this survey with results from the survey conducted in 2001.

The National Institutes of Health is accepting applications for its Secondary Data Analyses Based on the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development (R01) grant program. The purpose of the program is to support use of the data from the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development by people from a diverse set of careers (e.g. psychologists, sociologists, economists, statisticians, educators, policy makers, and physician scientists) in investigations into the links between child-rearing environment (e.g. families, childcare settings, schools) and child development over time.

News alerts

FDA Launches New E-Mail Alerts 
Health care professionals who need up-to-date information about medical products and the food supply have a new resource. The federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced it’s inaugurating an e-mail service that will alert subscribers whenever information is updated on certain FDA web pages, with subscribers able to specify the kinds of information they want to receive.

Teen Births Rose in 2006
For the first time since 1991, the rate of births to teenagers rose last year, increasing to 41.9 live births per 1000 females ages 15 to 19 years old. The 3 percent increase follows a 14-year downward trend in which teen births had fallen from an all-time peak of 61.8 births per 1000 in 1991.
