New this month at the Center
The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools is recruiting for a part-time contractual health and education writer/editor. This person will be responsible for writing original, factual and unbiased health and education news reports for 11 E-Journals annually and, on average, two short news alerts weekly. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in synthesizing health and education information to produce factual, concise and high quality material for a mix of professional and lay audiences. Caring Across Communities is a grant program that addresses the mental health needs of immigrant and refugee children. It is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and managed by the Center. Due to the overwhelming need described in the proposals, we are inviting all of you who are serving immigrant and refugee students in school-connected mental health programs to be a part of a learning community dedicated to sharing information, tools, training materials and best practices among those working with immigrant and refugee communities. To create this learning community, we need to know more about you. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has published a new dental chartbook that reports data from 1996 through 2004. This data is from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), which is sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Section 1 presents a summary of overall dental use, expenses, procedures, and providers, the prevalence of dental coverage and the relationship of dental coverage to use and expenses; section 2 addresses children's coverage and other matters for ages 0 - 20.
The MMWR report, Effects on Violence of Laws and Policies Facilitating the Transfer of Youth from the Juvenile to the Adult Justice System: A Report on Recommendations of the Task Force on Community Preventive Services, reviews studies of laws or policies that facilitate the transfer of juvenile offenders from the juvenile to the adult criminal justice system. The findings indicate that, in general, transfer policies often result in increased arrests of juveniles for subsequent crimes.
