The Hamilton Fish Institute on School and Community Violence at the George Washington University and the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory have released a new set of guides entitled  Creating Safer Schools and Communities.

The University of Arkansas Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released an evaluation of Act 1220
a comprehensive and coordinated approach to addressing childhood obesity in schools and communities.

House of Representatives Approves Moratorium on Cuts in Medicaid Reimbursements to Schools

On June 19, 2008 the House of Representatives passed a War Supplemental Funding bill that includes a moratorium on six of seven cuts Medicaid reimbursement that had been proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Creating Safer Schools and Communities, features a combination of fresh research, best practices, and planning tools to help educators and administrators make effective decisions and create successful programming.

According to the  Fourth Annual Evaluation of Act 1220, Arkansas' public schools are stepping up efforts to keep junk food away from kids, and parents are encouraging more healthy habits at home.
