New this month from the Center

Thanks to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Caring Across Communities grantees, Fresh Ideas grantees, presenters and guests for making a success of our conference in Los Angeles, March 18-20th, 2008. The meeting brought together more than 25 projects that are supporting new immigrant and refugee communities. Conference presentations provided how-to information on fund-raising, communications, program evaluation, school-based mental health and working collaboratively with others. These resources and more will be posted on www.healthinschools.org within the next two weeks.

New Resources

Older Sexual Partners During Adolescence: Links to Reproductive Health Outcomes in Young Adulthood by Suzanne Ryan, Kerry Franzetta, Jennifer Manlove and Erin Schelar, is based on the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, a nationally representative survey of youth in grades seven through twelve. The study published in the March 2008 issue of Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, found an increased risk of STDs in youth who were with an older partner.

With the number of screening tools available, it can be difficult to determine which tool is appropriate. To answer this need, the Commonwealth Fund has released the Pediatric Developmental Screening: Understanding and Selecting Screening Instruments. In addition to a manual, the website also features an interactive questionnaire that will assist in selecting a screening tool.
