CDC Reports on States’ Support of Physical Activity

A new report shows that many states lack policies and environmental measures to help their residents meet the recommended level of physical activity that promotes health. The State Indicator Report on Physical Activity 2010 was released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on May 25, 2010 and examined state level policies and physical features that encourage make physical activity such as community access to parks, playgrounds, community centers, sidewalks and walking paths as well as individual behaviors. The report found that only 50% of youth surveyed said they had access to parks, playgrounds, community centers and sidewalks that make physical activity convenient and only 17% of high school students get the recommended one hour of physical activity each day.
