The Planning Guide for Vaccinating Pediatric Patients Against 2009 H1N1 Influenza in Primary Healthcare Settings, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, provides guidance for planning and conducting 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccination of pediatric patients in primary healthcare settings.

Discussion Areas for Equity by The National Coalition for Equity in Education, is a list of questions to help parents, school staff, and teachers assess school strategies for implementing equity in schools. 

The Role of Culture in the Context of School-based BMI Screening, a recent article in Pediatrics, discusses school-based BMI reporting, which is intended to increase parental awareness of their children's weight status.

Covering Immigrant Children: Where do we stand? Center for Children and Families Health Policy Institute. Georgetown University, Washington, DC. Caring Across Communities Conference. April 2009.

This presentation by Joan Alker, Co-Executive Director of the Center for Children and Families Health Policy Institute, reviews current and anticipated efforts to provide coverage through the federal Medicaid and CHIP programs for children, with a focus on immigrant children. Ms. Alker summarizes changes in coverage under last spring's Children's Health Insurance Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA), the Immigrant Children's Health Improvement Act (ICHIA), and various state responses to these two pieces of legislation. She also discusses how CHIPRA and ICHIA could affect health care coverage for legal immigrant children in the future.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of the Gardasil vaccine for the prevention of genital warts due to human papillomavirus (HPV) in boys and men on Friday, October 16, 2009.

This guide provides information on who should receive the vaccine, benefits of vaccinating children in primary healthcare settings and potential challenges with providing 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccines in primary healthcare settings.

Questions address classroom practices, curriculum, culture of students in school, adult culture, parents, testing, school and district policies, and colleges and universities.

Multiple studies have shown that parents of overweight or obese children often fail to correctly perceive their children as overweight. Possible reasons for, and implications of, this misperception of child weight status among minority parents are explored within a cultural framework in this article.
